For now it is only a temptation, but more and more credible, because they shared the governor's second most populous state in the U.S.. Texas wants to proclaim its sovereignty, calling for the tenth amendment of the Constitution. It is not the only state to move in this direction in another twenty, including California, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Missouri, Montana, some Members have made similar requests.
Rebuffed so far as little more than folklore, the movement could take root, because it is to ride the Texas governor, Republican Rick Perry, the other evening announced support for a bipartisan resolution by four members of local parliament, seeking recognition of state sovereignty, in the spirit of the Founding Fathers, today, in their view, is betrayed.
"This is I appeal not only to Texas, but to the whole nation," Perry announced in a press conference. "The federal government has become oppressive and we can not accept to come and tell us how we manage our own reality." The complaint is clear and is targeted against an administration, that of Obama, and a Congress, a Democrat, who, in an attempt to save the U.S. from bankruptcy, becoming more interventionist, with socialist tendencies (in the opinion of some commentators) and in a context that would even be unconstitutional.
Yeah. According to the governor and many members of both parties, Washington is violating the principles of the tenth amendment, arrogating decisions that really belong to local governments. "Millions of Texans are tired of being subjected to the harassment of federal power," Perry said, praising the resolution calling for the abolition of all administrative and criminal penalties for states that refuse to pass laws or funding decided in Washington.
Message is clear: the U.S. must return to being a real federation of sovereign states voluntarily delegate few and limited powers to the central government. But today the White House and Congress can compel obedience even in areas such as education, health, transport policy and, therefore, have the final say on funding. Washington beats cash or better yet decide programs whose costs should, however, be borne by the taxpayers of individual states. Those in financial difficulty, such as California and Pennsylvania, do not make it and rebel, and those in health, such as Texas, are asking why should obey and claim the right to self-management funds. "We have proven to be more skilled and efficient federal government, which plunged into a financial slump," the governor said: "Why we must continue to obey?".
